Coaching Culture – Stockport NHS Foundation Trust

 In 2013 Novum were commissioned to support Stockport NHS Foundation Trust in the development of a Coaching Culture, which was intended to improve the performance of the Trust against a range of measures by helping them create more empowering and facilitative styles of management throughout the organization. The initial programme is nearing its conclusion and in depth quantitative and qualitative evaluations from delegates and their direct reports demonstrate that the overall programme has been highly successful. As a result of this programme, Stockport NHS has set up a successful and energized Coaching Academy.  This has enabled them to work more effectively and collaboratively with strategic partners, as part of an Integrated Care Organization and as a Multi-Service Community Provider. It has also delivered long term savings for their own Trust, the NHS regionally and the wider public sector. Programme evaluations show that leadership and management styles across large bands of the workforce have significantly shifted (for the positive) in relation to giving and receiving feedback, supporting and challenging colleagues through change and taking more empowering ‘ask not tell’ approaches. This is leading to ‘board to ward’ improvements.
